About Emily Gibson, MS, LPCC
Welcome to my practice! My journey into the depths of psychology and therapy began from a very young age with a personal quest to understand the intricacies of emotions, neurobiology, attachment, trauma, and the foundations of psychological theories and practices. This exploration was driven not just by my professional ambitions to enhance my therapy practice, but also by a deep desire to understand my own experiences to allow me, and those I serve, to heal. Having experienced my own aging challenges, those of my parents, family, and friends, and seeing them in my community, I want to help all of us get through them with mindfulness, grace, and authenticity. I finally found my voice as I got older, and I want to help you find yours too.
Along the way, I realized that traditional cognitive behavioral and solution-focused therapies, while helpful and effective, often didn’t facilitate the deep, body- and emotion-focused work that truly transforms. This insight propelled me to pursue over 125 hours of continuing education in Emotionally Focused Therapy, leading subsequently to dozens of hours of training in Internal Family Systems therapy, certification in treating adult children of emotionally immature parents, and EMDR certification. But my learning didn’t stop there—I’ve immersed myself in extensive studies on neurobiology, attachment, trauma, and aging-related issues, complementing this formal education with a daily regimen of books, podcasts, videos, articles, and blogs that I’m excited to share with you along the journey.
The profound impact of these methodologies on both my clients and me inspired me to expand my repertoire further, leading me to become certified in Sound and Vibrational Healing and a Certified Forest Therapy Guide. These qualifications equip me to offer alternative, potent methods of healing and calming the body—tools that are beneficial in our often tumultuous, disconnected, technology-focused world.
Working with me, whether it’s through ongoing psychotherapy or shorter-term nature therapy, you will enhance your self-awareness, learn to understand your body’s emotions and sensations, soothe your dysregulated nervous system, and find calm and embodied awareness. Together, we can tackle aging! The fears and challenges, changes and struggles, all of it. My goal is to help you become your own anchor, enabling you to transform life’s tumultuous waves into a serene beach.
